    内容简介:
    Recent experimental observation of magnetic droplet solitons and skyrmions in NC-STOs and ferromagnetic thin film with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) add two new members to the family of distinct and useful nanoscale magnetic objects. In this talk, I will present some of our recent work on micromagnetics simulations of magnetic droplet solitons and skyrmions in constricted geometries.  I will demonstrate numerically and analytically that spin transfer torque (STT) driven precession can stabilize so-called dynamical skyrmions even in the absence of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI), and I will describe their very promising properties in detail. From a more fundamental perspective, precession is hence a third independent possibility to stabilize a skyrmion, without the need for the conventional stabilization from either dipolar energy or DMI. I furthermore propose some new mechanisms for skyrmion creation and manipulation in nanostructures. I believe our study is fundamentally important for a better understanding of how to inject and control skyrmions as information carriers in nanoscale hybrid spintronic and magnonic devices.

    报告人介绍:

    Dr. Zhou Yan obtained his bachelor degree in University of Science and Technology of China in 2003 and MPhil degree in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2005. He got his PhD degree from Royal Institute of Technology (KTH, Sweden) in 2009.  Since September of 2011, he has been research assistant professor of The University of Hong Kong. He mainly worked in the research areas of modeling and simulation of spin torque devices and multiferroics. He has published over 70 papers in SCI journals including nature communications, Nano Letters, Physical Review B, and Applied Physics Letters etc.
